The influence of physical - chemical properties of wood chips on self - ignition temperature
Original language description
Due to the reduction of fossil fuel consumption and the need to improve air quality, solid biofuels play an increasingly important role lately. However, the usage of solid biofuels presents certain risks that can pose a threat to life, health and environment. Solid biofuels belong to plant materials that tend to spontaneous combustion. This tendency to spontaneous combustion is not always the same; it is influenced by various factors. These factors are physical-chemical properties and storage conditions. During self-heating, gases dangerous to life, health, and environment can be released. This paper deals with the assessment of the influence of carbon, volatile combustible, and moisture contents on the self-ignition temperature of four kinds of wood chips. Samples were subjected to basic chemical and elementary analyses. Evaluation of tendency to spontaneous combustion was performed according to standard EN 15188, in an isothermal furnace. The results have implications for the specifi
