THE DEVELOPMENT OF PENETRATION CHARGES FOR INCREASING THE EFFICIENCY OF THE INTERVENTIONS OF FIRE RESCUE SERVICE UNITS

  • Original language description

This article is devoted to the problems associated with the development of penetration charges for the needs of Fire Rescue Service unit interventions. During building fires, the units are in a problematic situation where nozzles with water cannot be delivered to the desired point of intervention and the wall or ceiling must be penetrated for energy supply and the entrance of persons. Usually, access openings for extinguishing are created with hand tools, power cutters, demolition hammers or, if the situation permits, heavy construction machinery. In all of these cases it is a very time-consuming activity. Alternatively, explosives may be used to create openings under certain circumstances. These are inserted into pre-prepared bores, which is a relatively time-consuming activity, and the explosive may explode, sending fragmented material flying into the environment and thus endangering persons at the intervention site. Another possibility is the use of charges that are covered with a water layer. In this case, the water absorbs the shock wave of the explosion at the back of this charge and at the same time significantly suppresses the fragmentation of the building element on which the charge acts. The penetration charge developed in two versions should allow a sufficient penetration of the partition wall in terms of size for energy conduction and the entrance of persons.
