Investigation of lateral vibration of rotors supported by long fluid film bearings of non-circular cross section induced by kinematic excitation
Original language description
One possibility how to decrease lateral vibration of rotors that is induced by their foundation movement is to couple the shaft with the stationary part through fluid film bearings. In computational models they are usually incorporated by means of nonlinear force couplings. To determine radial and tangential components of the hydraulical force a pressure function that describes the oil pressure distribution in the bearing gap must be known. This requires to solve a Reynolds' equation. If the bearings are long and of non-circular cross section, a numerical approach must be used. For this purpose a trigonometric collocation method has been proposed. Calculatuion of the Fourier coefficients results in solving a set of linear algebraic equations that mustbe carrid out by means of a matrix pseudoinversion. In cavitated areas it is assumed ( and confirmed by the measurements ) that pressure of the medium remains constant. The equation of motion is nonlinear and therefore for its solution a
