Electrodeposited Composite Nickel Coatings Containing Titanium and Vanadium Carbides Some mechanical properties of nickel coatings containing scattered fine hard TiC and VC are discussed. While hardness increases considerably in connetion with carbide particles, abrasion and and erosion wear resistance has not been improved. A hardness increase even at elevated temperatures 400 °C and more is significant as the decrease of hardness of common electrodeposits is striking owing to the recrystallization andoccurence of sulfides on grain boundaries. Poor wear resistance of the composites may be explained as a consequence of too large carbides particle size.
