Numerical Investigation of the Taylor Vortex Flow Developing between two Concentric Cylinders
Original language description
Cylindrical Couette flow in finite-length cavity with rotating walls via numerical modeling using three-dimensional finite volume method is investigated. Taylor vortices and other vortical structures arise as an instability in case of transition from laminar flow to turbulence at viscous fluid flow between two concentric cylinders, rotating relatively with different angular velocities. At a certain angular velocity characteristic vortex regimes occur. Because the fluid flow is transient, the accuracy ofnumerical modeling using both laminar and turbulent models is tested. Numerical results are compared with physical experiment and in this way they can be used for experimental equipment design.
