Applicability of Hertz Theory in Rolling Contact Simulations

  • Original language description

Using finite element method for fatigue life estimation in rolling contact is very productive. Sometimes, in cases with complicated geometry of contact bodies, it is the only one way solving the task. This article shows some possibilities for cnsideration of contact pressure disitibuiton using wiht the pressure moving method. Under the plastic shakedown limit the elastic Hertz normal pressure could be assumed. Above this value the proposed approximation is more accurate. The suggested function was investigated only for case of line contact. All solutions were done using FEM software Ansys 8.0.
