    In bearings whose parameters make possible to consider them as short the flow of the lubricant in the circumferential direction produced by the pressure gradient is negligible. If pressure at the outer edge of the oil film drops below the magnitude of pressure in the ambient space, the air starts to enter into the bearing gap. In computational models it is assumed that at the edge of the oil film the flow in the circumferential direction is equal to the flow in the axial one so that no oil flows betweenthe full film region and the area filled with ambient air. In regions where a vapour cavitation occurs a constant pressure is assumed. Lateral vibration of a rotor supported by fluid film bearings is described by a nonlinear equation of motion. If magnitude of the displacement from the equilibrium position is small, the equation of motion can be linearized and determination of the steady-state response results in solving a set of linear algebraic equations.

    Článek se zabývá linearizovanou odezvou rotoru uloženého v hydrodynamických ložiskách s uvážením vnikání vzduchu do ložiskové mezery. Stanovení hranice mezi neporušeným filmem a vzduchovou obklastí vede k řešení diferenciální rovnice prvního řádu.
