Some Engineering Applications of Trauma and Emergency Surgery Suitable for the Army

This article is focused on the design of medical tools suitable for trauma and emergency surgery in the army (i.e. external fixators applied in traumatology and orthopaedics and operational tool for radio frequency ablation). External fixators can be used in the treatment of open and unstable (i.e. complicated) fractures of pelvis and its acetabulum. Radio frequency ablation is a method of local liver tissue destruction using the thermal effect of passing electric current at a frequency of several hundreds kHz. All mentioned tools have been designed in the Czech Republic. Numerical modelling (i.e. Finite Element Method), together with CAD modelling, experiments, are presented as a support for developing of a new tools.
