Use of DEM in the Determination of Friction Parameters on a Physical Comparative Model of a Vertical Screw Conveyor
Original language description
Conveying systems are designed in practice by using known input parameters. The properties of the materials to be transported should be taken into account when designing new conveying equipment. The key input parameter for such systems is knowledge of the mechanico-physical properties of the bulk materials to be conveyed. Based on measurements and determination of the properties it is then possible to perform calibrations and testing of the behaviour of the models for the materials by means of computertechniques. Each application of a specific type of conveyor or discharge hopper requires a specific approach. The main input parameters for a DEM simulation (Fig. 1) of the application of a vertical screw conveyor are the friction factors. Most importantis the friction of the material against the conveyor screw and jacket. A situation was encountered in the laboratory such that the model intended for verifying the DEM simulation started exhibiting different results from PIV.
