The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) is a very important part of global waste streams. The complex compositions of WEEE (precious, strategic and rare elements, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, plastics, hazardous substances...) and its often miniature design lead to the technical and environmental difficulties to ensure an efficient way to successful recovery process. This paper describes a gravity separator function in sorting processes which is used for segregation of copper out of the wires and cables waste. For this type of separator is also demonstrated DEM simulations support in the device design.
