Model of storage and shipping synchronisation in production warehouses

  • Original language description

Storages play an important role in logistical chains. There are many types of warehouses fulfilling different functions in the logistical chains. One type of the warehouses is a so-called production warehouse. We can meet with the production warehouses in production processes that are composed of the two following phases. The first phase is production of products themselves and the second phase is refinement of the products. The refinement process must be adapted in cases when the products do not meet requested quality standards after their producing. Refinement is typical for food industry. Many products of food industry must spend a certain time in the production warehouse - we can mention for example ripping cheese, dried meat and so on. The production processes of such foodstuffs require that their storing in the production warehouse must meet pre-defined conditions. Based on the conditions minimal times of storage are determined. In addition, it is not usually acceptable that there is a positive time delay between finishing the production phase and beginning the warehousing phase because such delay may spoil the products. And finally, some products must not be stored in the production warehouse longer than a pre-defined maximal time. All the mentioned factors may influence decisions of managers who plan the production processes. In the article we present a mathematical model of the production warehouse; the model coordinates storage in the warehouse and shipping from it so that the predefined minimal and maximal time the products must spend in the warehouse are met.
