Initial Yield Locus Tracking for Stainless Steel Produced by SLM Technology

  • Original language description

The study of initial anisotropy is done for 316L stainless steel produced by 3D printing. A non-destructive tracing method is used to determine the initial yield locus. Experiments were performed in two printing directions and three loading paths were tested. The specimens were loaded proportionally and a combination of axial and torsional loading was used. The yield stress is defined as the deviation from the linearity. The resulting dispersion between the probing paths is negligible. The direction of printing affects the shape of the initial yield locus. For the horizontally printed specimens, the points can be approximated according to the von-Mises criterion. For vertically printed specimens, the shear stress component was dominant, and the initial yield surface appears as an ellipse.
