Viscoplastic Behaviour of Nylon Reinforced by Short Carbon Fibres under Room Temperature

  • Original language description

This paper presents mainly experimental determination of the viscoplastic properties of Onyx material used in the FDM technology of Markforged 3D printers. A dog bone specimen was used in the monotonic, creep, and relaxation tests performed under room temperature. First, the sensitivity of stress-strain behaviour to strain rate was investigated by standard tensile tests considering three-position rates realized up to 10 % of axial strain. A biaxial extensometer ensured simultaneous measurement of transverse and the longitudinal strains. For two chosen position rates, stress relaxation was followed with a fixed 10 % axial strain. Creep tests were performed on a dog bone and an hourglass specimen for comparison. The latter option required the application of the digital image correlation method. All experiments were simulated using the finite element method using the Perzyna viscoplastic model combined with the nonlinear kinematic hardening rule of Chaboche. The material model gives good predictions in monotonic loading cases with relaxation of axial stress.
