De dicto / de re Temporality vs. Modality
Original language description
Unlike standard modal and / or intensional logics, Transparent Intensional Logic (TIL) is explicitly intensionalised, i.e. the set of possible worlds w is one of the basic types. Moreover, TIL makes it possible to logically handle modal variability as being independent from temporal variability, i.e., another basic type is the type t of time moments. Hence separate variables ranging over possible worlds and time points are at our disposal. These features make it possible, among others, to exactly defineand logically handle the distinction between de dicto / de re supposition, in particular de dicto / de re attitudes, modalities and temporalities, by strict and exact distinguishing 'reporter#s perspective' from 'agent#s perspective'. In this contribution we concentrate on temporal aspects of de dicto / de re suppositions, comparing them with modal ones. We will show that a sentence like My next-door neighbour is frequently sick is ambiguous. It can be read as It is frequently the case
