Soil Testing Laboratory Reconstruction and Automation
Original language description
The purpose of this project was to reconstruct and automate existing manual test equipment and procedures in soil testing laboratory at Czech company UNIGEO. In the laboratory there is a set of eight oedometers, one direct shear tester and one triaxial shear tester, all running independently and in parallel. Controlled parameters are: pressure up to 1 MPa and displacement speed 0.002 - 5 mm/min. Measured parameters are: displacement (specimen thickness) with precision of 0.001 mm and force up to 5 kN. Duration of measurement on one specimen is in range from several minutes up to 7 days, sample rate is several seconds. Within the reconstruction phase a new motor drive, air-valves, displacement and force meters and electrical system were installed. The automated system built on top of the reconstructed testing technology controls the testing over the entire period of tests, calculates the soil characteristics from the measured data and prints test protocol. The system uses PLCs AMIT to c
