This article describes new measurement technique based on utilization of distributed fiber optic system named (DTS - Distributed Temperature Sensing system). DTS system behaves as a linear sensor, which measures the temperature along the optical fiber. Optical fiber can therefore be used not only for telecommunication purposes, as is currently the case, but for sensor purposes as well. Article also describes reflectometrical method that uses the DTS system to its function.
