    The paper deals with modernization of Tatra Beta AC driven electric vehicle. The drive consists of traction accumulator battery, PWM voltage inverter and induction machine. The inverter and the machine - products of Siemens - are water-cooled. Original control system by Siemens used vector control running on SAB80517 processor. Firstly the drive was modified, so it could be controlled by new control system. The paper solves implementation of the more powerful control system with vector control and direct torque control using TMS320F2812 signal processor. The behaviour of the drive with these two methods was tested in laboratory and in traffic.
