Kaoline/TiO2 composite as a photoactive component in cement based materials designed for reduction of NO.
Original language description
Two samples of kaoline/TiO2 composites containing 10 and 60 wt.% of TiO2 were prepared using thermal hydrolysis of suspension of kaoline and titanyl sulphate. Obtained composites were calcined for 2 hours at 600 °C what caused transformation of kaolinite(main component of kaoline) to metakaolinite. Prepared composites were studied using X-ray powder diffraction methods and atomic force microscopy. Latent hydraulic properties of calcined composites were tested using Chapelle test. It was observed that pozzolanic activity of the calcined composites decrease with the amount of TiO2. Both composites were utilized as admixture for preparation of testing samples of photoactive cement mortars. Surface roughness of these samples were determined using laser scanning confocal microscopy. Determination of photodegradation activity of the same samples against NO were tested using modified ISO standard, the efect of flow rate of testing gas through photoreactor was also studied.
