Merging Unit Understanding and Utilization in accordance with the Standard IEC 61850
Original language description
The standard IEC 61850 ?Communication Networks and Systems for Power Utility Automation" brings new methods of communication for power systems. The standard includes communication protocols as well as provides a unified and comprehensive system for managing the technical and economic processes in the automation substa-tion. The standard defines transmission of sampled values service for a fast cyclic transfer of samples. Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), which has role to sample the measured currents and voltages from instruments transformers and publish them, is called Merging Units. The article describes the Merging Unit, its utilization in automation substation and its pros and cons compared to existing solutions.
