This paper presents a new idea applied to recursive least square (RLS) algorithm for harmonic detection in shunt active power filters (SAPFs). The article is focused on progressive strategies of SAPFs with intension to compensate higher harmonic currentsof non-linear load. Within the executed experiments there was created a complex adaptive system based on the RLS algorithm. Experimental results based on real signals are showing up, that mentioned types of control with the use of RLS algorithm reach very good compensation attributes of the harmonic currents of non-linear load.
