The criteria for suitable location of geothermal power plant
Original language description
Energy crisis around the world and implementation of so-called Package 3×20 where one of its demands aimed at increasing the share of renewable energy sources in overall balance, result in a significant increase in the interest in geothermal energy, and thus in the production of electricity from geothermal sources. Unfortunately, in Poland and the Czech Republic we are dealing mainly with low and average temperature deposits, which are used primarily for heating and leisure facilities. The use of available sources for electricity production requires a series of tests and analyses-geological and engineering. It is worth investing in this type of solution because electricity derived from geothermal energy has a low impact on the environment and, in contrast to other renewable sources of energy, is stable during the day and available throughout the year. The main purpose of the article is to outline the criteria of geothermal power plants location. The main factors determining influence on location of geothermal power plants are: The temperature and the capacity of the source, the depth of resources available and the degree of mineralization of water sources as well as their efficiency. Moreover, the potential locations for binary geothermal power plant creation in Poland has also been outlined.
