Validity and applicability of Leibniz’s law of substitution of identicals
Original language description
In this paper we examine Leibniz’s principle of the indiscernibility of identicals. Our goal is to show that this principle is universally valid in all kinds of context, provided it is properly applied. This principle is subject to restrictions, because invalid applications are rooted in confounding different levels of abstraction. We distinguish three kinds of context, to wit extensional, intensional and hyperintensional ones, and the distinction makes it possible to define valid rules of substitution depending on the relevant kind of context.
