Magnetic properties of Fe-Nb-B-RE (RE = Tb, Tb/Y, Tb/Nd) amorphous and annealed melt spun ribbons

  • Original language description

The paper refers to magnetic properties of Fe-Nb-B-RE (RE = Tb, Nd, Tb/Y) type of melt spun ribbons. The samples were obtained using a typical melt-spinning technique. The dominant amorphous state was confirmed by XRD and thermomagnetic measurements. It has been shown that the alloying additions of the used RE elements introduce magnetic anisotropy into amorphous Fe-based structure. This fact was confirmed by the magnetic hysteresis loops as well as the Kerr microscopy observations. Moreover, increasing Tb content leads to an appearance of the “two-step” reverse magnetization curve. The mean field theory analysis revealed that the Tb addition reduces the exchange interaction between the Fe-Fe magnetic moments. The applied thermal treatment caused partial crystallization and a formation of hard magnetic phases with ultra-high coercivity.
