Centralized and Distributed Controller Placement in Terms of Scalability and Fault Tolerance: A Review

  • Original language description

This review paper examines centralized and distributed controller architectures in terms of scalability and fault tolerance within IoT networks. It analyzes the impact of different topological configurations, such as bus, mesh, and tree structures on controller performance. The study also analyzes the strengths and limitations of both centralized and distributed architectures supported by the literature and real world SDN controllers such as RYU, Floodlight, ONOS and ONIX. In the last research direction and conclusion is provided to guide optimal controller placement strategies for SDN-based IoT systems, ensuring reliable and scalable network management.
