    Modeling of one-dimensional magneto-photonic crystals for telecommunication applications

    One-dimensional (1D) photonic crystals and periodic structures find wide applications in optical communication technology for their spectral selectivity and bandgap properties. Particularly, narrow-band pass optical filters NBPF [1] and gain flattening filters GFF based on SiO2 and Ta2O5 films are commonly used. On the other hand, there is a need for an isolator preventing undesirable back reflections, which is based on non-reciprocal magneto-optical effects [2]. Combination of both approaches as the 1Dmagnetophotonic crystal has been proposed by Kato et. al. [3]. In this paper, we present a general theoretical approach for modeling of 1D magnetophotonic crystals based on a Yeh's matrix algebra describing light propagation in anisotropic multilayers and on design of multiple-cavity Fabry-Perot filters. Numerical models for structure consisting of oscillating SiO2 and Ta2O5 films and Bi:YIG magneto-optical material as the cavity are presented.
