    The Effect of Machine Behaviour and Mechanical Properties of Intact Sandstone Under Static and Dynamic Uniaxial Cyclic Loading

    The determination of dynamic properties of rock samples in the laboratory hasgained importance in recent years. Li et al. (2001, 2003) provided a literature reviewon the subject and proposed a fatigue-damage model for jointed rock masses as wellas for cracked, frozen, sandstone samples subjected to dynamic cyclic loading. Itwas found that intact and failed models of jointed rock were highly susceptible tocyclic fatigue failure (Li et al., 2001, 2003; Attewell and Farmer, 1973; Burdine,1963).In this technical note, the results obtained from dynamic and static uniaxial cyclicloading tests on intact rock samples of carboniferous sandstone (a rock from the burstprone Darkov coal mine in the Czech Republic) are presented. The purpose was tostudy the behaviour of intact rock samples under such conditions for different frequenciesand amplitude at a constant axial deformation rate. It was found that themachine behaviour in terms of amplitude had a significant effect on the resultsobtained. The
