The method of assessment of failure of the rigid strata overlying extracted coal seams with support of geoinformation technologies
Original language description
Geoinformatics is concerned, among others, with the mapping, modelling and study of processes in time and space. These can be natural (e.g. erosion, slope failures, folding) and man-induced (for instance, formation of subsidence troughs in undermined areas). Geoinformatics offers suitable methods and tools enabling the application of new procedures for the assessment of their impacts on the environment. Deep extraction of minerals is mostly accompanied by deformations of the strata overlying extracted coal seams. Deformations of overlying layers run up to the surface where a subsidence trough gradually forms. Drops and formation of the subsidence trough result from the processes that take place in the strata overlying extracted coal seams. The proposedmethod of assessment of failure of the rigid strata overlying extracted coal seams is based on the long-term and systematic monitoring of subsidence of the surface using geodetic methods and on the comparison of the results with the deve
