    Magneto-Optical Activity of Gold Nanoparticles

  • Original language description

A measurable magneto-optic (MO) activity of nanoparticles made out of noble metals is observed when the localized plasmon waves are excited in the presence of external magnetic field. The origin of MO effect consists in the resonance of permittivity thathas been recently demonstrated. We confirmed these observations theoretically and by experimental way as well. The presented measurements are related to Au nanostructure on SiO2/Si substrate. They are compared to theoretical model based on effective medium approximation (EMA). The heterogeneous layer is formed as a field of randomly distributed spheroidal nanodots of various sizes having the same height and parallel symmetry axis that enables to apply the Bragg-Pippard model of EMA. The size of dots (height, diameter) and fill-factor of nanodots were specified using the transmission electron microscopy (TEM) image processing. Derived computational algorithm was successfully validated by comparison with the data published elsewhere. Pre
