Cadmium-resistant bacteria and their applications in bioleaching process

  • Original language description

The article examines the effect of cadmium on the bacteria of Pseudomonas genus, namely new isolates from anthropogenically strained areas of settling basins with established contents of heavy metals. Bacterial resistance to cadmium was evaluated on the grounds of MIC/MTC, where the maximum tolerance concentration (MTC) represents the top metal concentration which does not physiologically influence the growth of the bacterial strain. Isolates with the highest resistance were applied in the cadmium-bioleaching experimental process, which indicate a possibility to exploit the bacterial activity for heavy metals removal, detoxification of waste or soil contaminated by heavy metals.
