Metal resistance in Rhodococcus bacterial strain

  • Original language description

The work aimed to verify the tolerance of the bacterial strain Rhodococcus sp. CCM 4446 to metal ions, such as Ni2+, Cd2+, Ag+, Pb2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, Cu2+, Co2+, Li+, Se4+, Se+, Tl+, Bi3+, Te4+, Cr6+, Sn2+. The strain is exceptional in its extremely high tolerance to some of the observed metal ions, namely Mg2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Li+, Te4+, Bi3+, Se4+, Se+; lower tolerance, ranging from 6 mM/L - 1 mM/L, was determined in case of other metal ions. The metal ions that were the most toxic for the strain were Cr6+ and Tl+, in which growth was observed only in the concentration 1 mM/L. The results bring comprehensive information on the resistance capacities of the bacterial strain, complemented with growth curves of the strain in model solutions containing the following ions: Bi3+, Co2+, Li+.
