Evaluation of organic carbon in dust particles in emissions of the Moravian-Silesian Region

  • Original language description

Concentrations of organic carbon (OC) from emission sources were determined in different size distribution of PM (PM2.5, PM10 and >PM10), due to high concentrations of OC in air pollution in the Moravian-Silesian Region (Czech Republic). The concentration of OC here is 1.5 times higher than in other European areas. Concentrations of OC emission from various industrial processes (e.g. power engineering, metallurgy and local heating) in PM2.5 ranged from 13 ?g/m3 to 4.1 mg/m3 (average concentration of 1.424 mg/m3). The range for PM10 is from 3 ?g/m3 to 142 ?g/m3 (average of 51.8 ?g/m3) and for > PM10 from 1 ?g/m3 to 285 ?g/m3 (with an average of 51.5 ?g/m3). The highest concentrations of OC were measured in PM2.5, OC mostly accumulated in fraction PM10.The average percentage of OC in PM2.5 reached 16 %, 30 % in PM10 and mostly 25 % in the fraction >PM10. The particle size class < 2.5?m contains the highest PM proportion (87 - 97%), the class PM10 contains 0.6 - 8% and the class > 10 ?m
