Butterflies are known as bioindicators. Their species diversity is an indicator of changes in the landscape management. Quality of habitat can be determined based on butterfly presence. The aim of the research was to assess the occurrences of butterfliesin extensive orchards on the post-industrial undermined terrains of Karvina district. The orchards are affected by ecological succession. They create a habitat mosaic together with next habitats. The selected orchards were analysed for vegetation and butterflies. The research was carried out during 2010 - 2012. The article summarizes the results of this research.
