    Fracture energy of abrasive materials

  • Original language description

    In energetical models in abrasive water jet technology, specific fracture energy of abrasive materials that are composed of small minerals grains must be taken into account, since the abrasive grains are disintegrated in the process. In this contributionwe present experimental values of specific fracture energies of selected abrasive grains, almandine, zircon and periclase. We found that this quantity strongly depend on their deformation speed. However, in cases of very fast deformations, which one canexpect during abrasive processes, this energy is constant and equal to specific surface energy, which is fracture energy of ideally brittle fracture. In conclusion, in mentioned energetic models, knowledge of specific surface energy value is sufficientfor these models.
