Biochemical profiles of unidentified bacteria isolated from the mineral phases after antimony-mining
Original language description
The diversity of sites with a high proportion of metals is characterized by the occurrence of specifically adapted microorganisms. Their identification and subsequent accurate genotypic and phenotypic characteristics are a prerequisite for further practical applications, especially in bioremediation processes. A total number of 34 bacterial strains have been isolated from the surface of minerals present in the stored material left after the extraction of Sb-ores. Nine of the isolates have not been identified. They are being compared on the grounds of biochemical characteristics obtained using the modern system BIOLOGTM MicroStation. The obtained results make part of the microbiological evaluation of a locality with a high content of Sb-minerals, being an extreme environment with the occurrences of a number of new, so far undescribed microorganism species.
