EVALUATION OF SURFACE WATER QUALITY IN PARTIAL SECTION OF ARTIFICIAL WATERCOURSE MLYNKA
Original language description
The aim of the research was to find out the surface water quality in a partial section of the Mlynka flowing in the protected area Poodri. The locality has never been monitored before. The Mlynka is an artificial watercourse built for a water supply system of ponds. Gradually, the Mlynka was changing in some sections due to the natural dynamics. The monitoring took place at two time periods from October 2013 to April 2014 and from February 2014 to February 2016. Composite samples were drawn from two profiles located on the Mlynka during the day at two-hour intervals. These two profiles were complemented with the third profile situated on a parallel channel of the River Odra runoff during the second monitoring period, which flows into the Mlynka in the sampling site. Surface water quality was determined by analyzing selected chemical parameters using absorption spectrophotometry (ammonium and nitrate nitrogen, total phosphorus) and accompanying parameters, such as water temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity and suspended solids. The resulting values were compared with the relevant legislative and normative regulations. Increased concentrations of ammonium nitrogen and total phosphorus were proved in the given location during both monitoring periods. The identified values can be used in the next mapping of water quality in the Mlynka and also it can be useful for the management of the protected area Poodri as a source information about the water quality in the locality.
