Material balance as a basic tool in monitoring the tightness of underground gas storage
Original language description
Presented article focuses on the use of the material balance as a basic tool in monitoring the tightness of underground gas storage. Material balance is the one of the most used methods for checking the tightness in the operation of underground gas storage. Under the monitoring of gas volume are evaluated hysteresis curves (depending on the regime of operation of underground gas storage). These curves represent the functional relationship between quantity reduced pressure (ratio of gas pressure and compressibility factor) and volume reserves of gas during gas injection and gas withdrawal. Analysis of curves can follow the development of storage structures used for underground storage of natural gas over time and monitor the increase/decrease of pore space and possible leakage of gas from the storage structure. These situations are illustrated, analyzed and compared to each other in this article. In order to draw conclusions about the losses of gas in the reservoir or reduce/enlarge pore space is needed to monitor the hysteresis curves of long-several consecutive injection-withdrawal seasons.
