Wastewater sludge: a source of irrigation water and nutrients
Original language description
In the last few years, the necessity to treat wastewater in a sustainable way to minimize contamination and maximize the recovery of nutrients has become widely acknowledged. Sludge water is rich in nutrients and is thus convenient for recycling and recovery of inorganic biogenic substances. Such substances are suitable for plant nutrition without depleting the natural mineral reserves. One of the methods applied in sludge water treatment is electrodialysis, thanks to which two products, a diluate stream (D) and a concentrate stream (K), are acquired for further testing. In this paper, both streams containing nutrients were used to study the options to find new applications for wastewater sludge.
