APPLICATION OF HANDHELD SCANNER IN DOCUMENTATION OF HISTORICAL BUILDINGS

  • Original language description

Over the past years the evolution of geodetic instruments is taking the way of minimalization and mobility. Remarkable technological progress can be recognized on a field of mobile scanning. Wide variety of usage of handheld laser scanners and its accuracy of measurement in comparison to other geodetical methods was settled as the main objective of this contribution. The introduction of article is concerning about the problematic of documentation of historic landmarks. Following pages are describing the methodology of cultural heritage documentation by usage of geodetic techniques in combination of classic terrestrial methods with scanning, static and mobile handheld laser scanner. The measurement was performed by advanced innovative instrument, ZEB-REVO RT, developed by company GeoSLAM which was constructed for "walk and scan" process of scanning. It enables scanning of large areas and buildings in tremendous short time without necessity for static observation and the creation of geodetic network points. The model measurement is applied on an assignment for documentation of a building with historical nature. The work is including the digitalization of external facade, a complete scan of interior and generation of building plans - ground plans for each floor and vertical sections which are going to be used for reconstruction of the property. Essential element of documentation is point cloud with potential usage for the purpose of 3D visualisation of the object and reconstruction of its geometrical changes over the period of time. The result of the research is comparison of accuracy and precision for three different measuring techniques: tacheometric measurement, stationary scanner and handheld mobile scanner. In conclusion is a polemic about the utilization of handheld laser scanners in near future, which is actually possible even today.
