Humic acids oxidatively altered bituminous coal
Original language description
Bituminous coal seams in proximity to or in direct contact with red beds bodies of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin were altered by oxidation. This contribution is concerned with oxidative altered coal from Lazy Mine, Landek Hill where coal seams crop out at the surface and laboratory oxidized coal. All this coal can be characterized namely by retrogradely formed humic acids. Propensity of coal to oxidation was laboratory tested on two different coal samples. From laboratory results the kinetics of coal oxidation for temperature interval from 150 to 300oC was evaluated. Using the extrapolation it was calculated time needed for the formation of 1% of humic acids at 25oC. Chemical composition and structure of coal samples and their humic acids suggest thatcoal in proximity of variegated body deposited now approximately 300m below paleorelief is very similar to weathered coal from Landek Hill and also to laboratory oxidized coal at temperature below 150oC.
