Original language description
Intergranular brittleness of boron-free polycrystalline Ni3Al at ambient temperatures and pressures has been shown to be at last partially due to water vapour present in many testing environments [1-3]. The purpose of the present study is to investigatethe effect of hydrogen loading time and of specimen dimensions on hydrogen amounts in the specimens of different dimensions and heat treatments. The Ni3Al alloy used in this study has stoichiometric composition : 25 at. % Al and Ni balance and was prepared by directional solidifying in flowing argon. The resulting Ni3Al alloy rods were homogenised by annealing in vacuum for 6 h at 1373 K. The discs of dimension of 0,5; 1 and 2 mm were cut and hydrogen-charged at 1073 K in flowing hydrogen for 1; 4 and 7hours. After hydrogenation the samples were heated at 1073 K and at the melting temperature in order to measure the released hydrogen amounts.
