Dynamics of rising bubbles
Original language description
First step to the understanding processes in bubbled liquids is investigation of single bubble behavior. Shape of a small bubble and its rising velocity is time independent in simple cases. However, the size and velocity exhibit periodic oscillation forlarger bubbles and in limiting case there occurs chaotic variation of velocity and shape leading sometimes to the bubble breakup. This paper summarizes existing knowledge on rising bubbles with accent to low viscosity liquids and to the medium size spheroid bubbles, which are typical results of breakup and coalescence in a bubble swarm. When coalescence can be neglected, the bubble size is controlled by breakup. Recent data on the process of single bubble breakup were represented by simple power-law correlation of bubble half-life. Mathematical model of a cascade of bubble breakup to two equal-size parts is represented by a set of ordinary differential equations, which somewhat resembles the model of consecutive reactions of first order
