Forging of vanadium and niobium microalloyed steels

  • Original language description

Production of forgings made of micro-alloyed steels brings lower production and processing costs, better utilisation of steel properties and higher quality of forged pieces. Forgings made of subeutectoid steels micro-alloyed with vanadium, niobium and nitrogen are mostly used for components for assembly of vehicles and machines. Optimum thermo-mechanical controlled process parameters have been established for high strength and toughness in V-Nb microalloyed steels. The effects of reheating temperature, forging schedules, cooling rate and finish cooling temperature on the microstructure development, the final ferrite grain size and mechanical properties have been examined. It has been shown that the potential for precititation strengthening is dependen ton vanadium and niobium and cooling parameters.
