From accessible literature is evident, that the addition of Lewis acids to coal before carbonisation has a dehydrogenating effect, speeds up mesophase growth, influences the course of polycondensational reactions in the way of getting requiremental products, inhibits formation of tar, enhances the yield of carbon and improves the resultant properties in consequence of decarboxylation, alkylation, dehydration and combinations of other reactions.In the work the attention was aimed at investigation of theeffects of addition of chloride solutions. For experiments the solutions of several selected monovalent, divalent and trivalent chlorides were used. Samples of coal were impregnated by excess of low concentrated solutions. Then samples were carbonised ina special coking retort located in special kiln with heating rate 3°C / min and at the final temperatures from 600 - 800°C.
