Transport processes in liquid steel: challenge for chemical engineers
Original language description
Essential chemical problem of steelmaking is removal of the excess of carbon, silicone, phosphorus and sulfur dissolved in iron and final de-oxidation. Physico-chemical problems include the separation of dissolved gases like hydrogen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, removal of tramp elements from metal scrap, sedimentation of slag particles and separation of the slag. Finally, it is preparation of homogeneous liquid suitable for crystallization of the steel alloys in a required shape.
