Original language description
Process monitoring system DGS based on mould friction and wall temperatures including instrumentation MKL for mould dimension measuring has been developed and is in operation at two billet and block casters in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Amplitude of friction force and level of lubrication are evaluated from accelerator and position signals. Wall temperatures are used for crack identification and quality prediction. Steady and symmetrical heat removal is desired for safe and quality production. Thesystem has been applied at both rectangular moulds from 200 to 350 mm and round moulds with diameter from 320 to 550 mm. As mould taper has close relation to shell-mould contact and consequently to friction and heat removal, automatic instruments with laser sensor for operational measuring of mould dimensions, taper and wear have been developed and are in operation at the same casters.
