Forming of new steel grades
Original language description
The transformation of austenite to martensite is fundamental to the hardening of carbon steels. This transformation plays an important role for mechanical behaviour of low-carbon ferrous alloys containing 5 to 20 vol. % retained austenite. The effect, known as transformation induced plasticity (TRIP), is manifested by unusual work hardening and high uniform elongation - properties very desirable for thin sheets applied for automobiles parts . The influence of hot deformation on microstructure of a hot-rolled Si-Mn TRIP steel was evaluated in effort to better control retained austenite content. In the study, axial compressive strain varying in amount from 0 to 60 % were imposed in the austenite phase field, and effects of on the formation of polygonalferrite, bainite and retained austenite were determined. In addition, modifications in simulated coiling temperature from 420 °C to 480 °C and cooling rates from the rolling temperature, between 10 °C.s-1 and 35 °C.s-1, were assessed.
