    The paper presents microstructural characterisation of AZ91 (Mg-9Al.-0,6Zn) alloy after casting and heat treatment. The microstructure of the casting alloy consists of Mg phase matrix with a primary brittle phase (Mg17Al12) at grain boundaries. With using light microscopy we also observed precipitations of Mg2Si and MnAl4 phases.
