The papper deals with microstructural characterization of dissimilar weld joint made between a lowalloy 0.5Cr0.5Mo0.25V steel and a nonstabilised CrNiMO steel of AISI 316H type using a 20Cr38Ni6Mo filler metal. The studies were carried out on a cross weld creep rupture specimen which failed after exposure for 104 875 hours at 550°C. Fracture occurred in the intercritical region of the HAZ on the side of the low alloy steel. Optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy nd X-ray microanalysis wereused for microstructural investigations on the low alloy steel HAZ and the adjacent carburized zone of the nickel bearing weld metal. The results proved the positive effect of vanadium in low alloy teels on microstructural evolution in critical regionsof dissimilar welds.
