    The aim of the work was to compare influence of retained austenite volume fraction and ferritic matrix grain size for mechanical properties of TRIP (TRansformation Induced Plasticity) steel. The TRIP steel presents excellent combination of mechanical properties - high strength (yield stress to 1200 MPa) and especial plasticity (elongation to 30%) can be achieved. The fundamental underlying phenomenon is a stabilisation of a substantial amount of retained austenite during thermo-mechanical processing down to ambient temperature and its subsequent strain-induced transformation to martensite. The amount of retained austenite and its stability against strain induced martensitic transformation is important characteristic affecting resulting mechanical properties of steel.
