Motion periodicity of wobbling ellipsoidal bubbles
Original language description
Bubbles rising in liquid batch can be observed for comparatively short period only. However, the long-term observation can be done in a countercurrent flow. Aim of this study is to observe rising of medium size ellipsoidal bubbles. Continuous phase is alow-viscosity liquid (usually water) with 1<Eo<40, Re>100. The bubbles are pulsating and their path oscillates as well. The flow pattern is zig-zag or helicoidal. There is an essential difference between solid particle and bubble motion. Unlike solid particles the bubble largest area is oriented to the direction of the motion. The variation of bubble shape is related to the interaction of the external forces and the surface tension. Simple model of force balance has been suggested to explain the natureof the shape and path oscillations. The oscillation frequency is a function of rising velocity and Laplace length, the effect of bubble size being negligible. Properties of the movement are evaluated statistically from the experimental da
